Helen Simoneau reçoit la bourse Guggenheim de 2021

Le conseil d’administration de la Fondation John Simon Guggenheim Memorial a accepté de remettre la bourse Guggenheim en chorégraphie de 2021 à Helen Simoneau, directrice artistique d’Helen Simoneau Danse. Choisie parmi plus de 3 000 candidats, à l’issue d’une rigoureuse évaluation par les pairs, Simoneau fait partie d’un ensemble diversifié de 184 artistes, auteurs, chercheurs et scientifiques ayant été sélectionnés pour l’édition 2021 du concours.

Hélène Simoneau Danse

Through choreographic design, Hélène Simoneau Danse (HSD) creates space for nuanced, intimate experiences that explore the vast spectrum of human dynamics. Committed to the artistic voice of its founder Hélène Simoneau, the company has performed nationally and internationally including recently premiering Simoneau’s new work “Delicate Power” at the American Dance Festival, a piece commissioned by the ADF and created through Simoneau’s Guggenheim Fellowship and as a resident choreographer at New York City Center. Additionally, HSD has been presented at Tangente (Montréal), the Festival Vue sur la Relève (Montréal), The Aoyama Round Theatre (Tokyo), Guggenheim Museum (NYC), Joyce SoHo (NYC), Bates Dance Festival (ME), Shanghai Dance Festival, Athens International Dance Festival, Danza Urbana (Bologna), VivaDanca Festival Internacional (Sao Paulo), Regensburger Tanzstage Festival, and PACT-Zollverein (Essen), to name a few. The company has enjoyed residencies at the Baryshnikov Arts Center (NYC), NYU/ Tisch, the NYU Center for Ballet and the Arts, The Yard (MA), and at the American Dance Festival. Simoneau has been described as “a Choreographer-on-the-rise” with a style that is both “athletic and smooth” — Dance Magazine. Originally from Luceville, a small village near Rimouski, in Eastern Québec, Simoneau currently divides her time between New York City and Montréal.
